Entertaining The Hours Of Your Week With Henry V, OCCC’s Spring Choral Concert And A Food Drive


The ReduxionTheatre Company (RTC) opens its production of William Shakespeare’s Henry V on Friday, May 9.

Lads and ladies take a trip back to the early 15th century to see sword fights and authentic costumes staged 'in your lap' in the re-located ReduxionTheatre at Automobile Alley in downtown Oklahoma City.  

The classic war drama features several students from the University of Oklahoma’s School of Drama including senior acting majors Andrew Rathgeber and Brynne Frauenhoffer in leading roles.

Due to scenes with violence, and some adult content, the show is rated PG-13.

RTC’s May 9 premiere is sold out already, however performances run through May 31 with tickets and a schedule available at the company’s website

Oklahoma City Community College hosts the final concert of the spring for OCCC’s Concert Choir, the Chamber Singers and the Symphonic Community Choir May 8.

In addition to a special composition by an OCCC choir member and a handful of songs from the traditional choir repertoire, the evening’s music selections include songs from the Beatles, jazz and musicals like Phantom of the Opera. OCCC piano professors Lisa Barsaleau and Ron Staton also perform a piano duet.  

The complimentary public concert takes place in the Visual and Performing Arts Theater at 7 p.m.

Frances Hodgson’s classic 1991 children's novel The Secret Garden comes to life for nine days at the Myriad Botanical Gardens in downtown Oklahoma City.

The Secret Garden Spring Festival takes place Friday, May 9 through Sunday, May 18.

Vignettes throughout the Children’s Garden will place kids right in the thick of the story along with other activities like jump roping, a scavenger hunt and a class designed to allow kids to make their own secret gardens.

The festival also features a live serenade by the Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma followed by a screening of The Secret Garden movie on Saturday night.

Garden members receive complimentary admission while nonmember fees are $3 for adults and $5 per child.

The National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum celebrates Mother’s Day with a special brunch on Sunday, May 11.

The prairie-style meal takes place at the Museum’s Dining on Persimmon Hill restaurant from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and museum admission is included.

The United States Postal Service’s 68th annual Food Drive takes place Saturday, May 10.

All are encouraged to leave a bag of canned, non-perishable food items by their mailbox for the letter carrier to deliver to local food banks and pantries.

On Thursday, May 8, the Northwest Technology Center on south 11th Street in Alva hosts a drive from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. while Keller Williams Realty at East Campbell Road in Oklahoma City holds one from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Sooner Mall in Norman hosts the OBI Saturday, May 10 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and all donors earn a prize from the OBI's Treasure Chest.
