Tulsa native and Bishop Kelley High School alumna Olivia Jordan won the 2015 Miss USA pageant Sunday evening in Baton Rouge.

During the interview portion of the contest, she hailed the diversity of her fellow contestants and spoke about the need for more dialogue on race relations.

“We really need to work on being an accepting society, and being a society where every single person, no matter your race, no matter your gender, is given the same rights, privileges, and opportunities,” Jordan said.

The pageant has been largely overshadowed by comments made by co-owner Donald Trump bashing Mexican immigrants. Broadcasters, judges and hosts pulled out of the ceremony in protest.

The 26-year-old Jordan earned a degree in health science from Boston University.
