KGOU Gives OU Students Real-World Experience

This is the Manager’s Minute.

This semester we have three University of Oklahoma students taking KGOU’s Practicum class. Becca Ynez is assisting Program Director Jim Johnson in operations and producing community events calendar announcements. Tristen Watkins is working with Development Director Jolly Brown to produce listener testimonials and other materials to be used in our fundraising. And Robert Loayza is doing news reporting under the guidance of Managing Editor Logan Layden.

Another Gaylord College student, part-time student employee Ryan Gaylor, joined us last fall. Ryan has been reporting on the Oklahoma legislature and state government since the start of the legislative session last month.

Providing a real-world educational experience and on-the-job training for students is one of the ways KGOU serves the university community throughout the year.

With the Manager’s Minute, I’m Dick Pryor.

Dick Pryor has more than 30 years of experience in public service media, having previously served as deputy director, managing editor, news manager, news anchor and host for OETA, Oklahoma’s statewide public TV network. He was named general manager of KGOU Radio in November 2016.
