The State Department of Education wants Oklahoma teachers, parents, and anyone interested in public education to help develop new academic standards for English and math.
On Tuesday the Oklahoma Supreme Court upheld a repeal of the state's Common Core standards that were adopted in 2010. Oklahoma will revert to old Priority Academic Student Skills (PASS) Standards until a replacement is implemented two years from now.
The education department is accepting applications for spots on 28 Standards Creation Teams that will represent educators from across the state.

The executive director of the State Board of Career and Technology, Oklahoma’s chancellor for higher education, the state superintendent of public instruction, the secretary/executive director of the state Department of Commerce and two members of the State Board of Education will have seats on this panel. The steering committee will appoint four executive committees — one each for math and ELA in grades Pre-K-5 and 6-12 — with a maximum of 21 members apiece. These groups will provide input, resources and editing throughout the process and will help facilitate public meetings and comments.
