A Norman police officer has been cleared in the shooting death of a 34-year-old man who approached the officer with a hammer.
In a letter sent this week to the Norman Police Department, Cleveland County District Attorney Greg Mashburn said his office's review of the Dec. 14 shooting determined the use of force was "justified and appropriate under the law."
Police say officer Heather Glazier shot Martin Sanchez-Juarez after she responded to a call and came across the man carrying a hammer. Police say Sanchez-Juarez continued to advance toward the officer and refused her orders to drop the hammer. They say he smashed the patrol car's mirror with the hammer before Glazier shot him three times.
Police say Sanchez-Juarez died six days after the shooting.
